- Applications to study any UFS undergraduate program offered on the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa Campuses in 2024 open on 1 April 2023
- Applications to study any Access Programme (AP) offered on the South Campus and the sub-regions in 2024 open on 1 July 2023
Required Supporting Documents for UFS Online Application
Upload copies of the following supporting documents when you apply for undergraduate studies:
- A copy of your ID if you are a South African citizen
- Your passport if you are an international student
- Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18
- Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Grade 12 IEB certificate if you have already matriculated
- Your academic record, only if you are/were a student at another institution of higher learning
- USAf accreditation from the examination board for South African universities.

UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

- The online application must be completed by each potential student.
- You will be given a student number once your online application has been submitted and processed (Reference number).
- It is NOT implied that you have been accepted by the University of the Free State just because you have received a student number (Reference number).
- Applications for candidates who are retaking Grade 12 courses will be handled using the most recent results. If you took Grade 12 more than once, you must submit your combined results together with your application.
- Applicants currently in Grade 12 are requested to provide school-stamped copies of the final Grade 11.
- By selecting “National Senior Certificate” on the Results Detail page of the online application process, candidates who are writing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) through the IEB or SACAI examining institutions may apply.
- While applying, students who are transferring from another university or tertiary institution must disclose their prior coursework and attach certified transcripts and degree certificates (where applicable).
- The General Education Development (GED) test is not accepted by the University of the Free State for admission into any of its curricular undergraduate requirements. Universities in South Africa (USAF) no longer recognize the GED, and it is not equivalent to a grade 12 (NSC/IEB/SACAI) in South Africa. It is encouraged that GED holders who want to pursue an undergraduate degree register for and successfully finish a grade 12 NSC/IEB/SACAI exam or an international equivalent.

POSTGRADUATE APPLICATIONS

- Honours, Master’s, and doctoral students may occasionally be required to pre-register or submit a direct application to the department. To establish if you need to apply directly or pre-register, please refer to the specific Faculty and departmental information. For more information, go to the department’s and the faculty’s websites.
- Each prospective student must complete the online application.
- You will be given a student number once your online application has been submitted and processed (Reference number).
- It is NOT implied that you have been accepted by the University of the Free State just because you have received a student number (Reference number).
- Admission is a separate process when your application will be evaluated by the relevant faculty.
