The University of KwaZulu-Natal is a public research institution located in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). At UKZN, a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in subjects like science, engineering, law, the arts, and social sciences are offered. UKZN scholarships are available to students who demonstrate academic excellence, a need for financial aid, or exceptional ability in a particular field, such as sports or music. Students in both undergraduate and graduate programs may apply for one of the many scholarships offered by UKZN, including prizes based on merit, financial aid, awards for athletes, and awards for students with disabilities.
Students interested in applying for scholarships should be aware that the top Grade 12 students planning to attend the University of KwaZulu-Natal are granted scholarships and merit awards (UKZN). No separate application for the scholarship is required; however, you must apply and be accepted to UKZN through the Central Applications Office (CAO) in order to be eligible. The Grade 12 Merit Awards are given out upon receipt of the Senior Certificate symbols from the Department of Basic Education. Anyone who has completed coursework beyond Grade 12 before enrolling at the University of KwaZulu-Natal or who does not plan to do so within two years of the applicant’s Senior Diploma date is not subject to this. Type Of KwaZulu Natal University Scholarships
- PRESTIGE ENTRANT SCHOLARSHIPS
PIUS LANGA SCHOLARSHIP (PRESTIGE ENTRANT SCHOLARSHIP)
R50,000 to matriculants from schools writing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations and ranked in the top ten in each of the nine provinces, and to learners from Independent Examination Board (IEB) schools in KZN who are ranked in the top 50 nationally in the IEB final matriculation examinations.
Renewal/Retention of Pius Langa Scholarship
Entrant prestige awards of R50,000 may be retained into the next year of undergraduate study if the recipient scores at least 80% on a weighted average basis on a normal full-year subject load.
- PRESTIGE SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS
The scholarship is designed to help students with their tuition expenses and requires that learners have participated in sport at the National or Provincial level in the year prior to enrolling in the institution. A number of grants are given out, and renewals are contingent on maintaining a minimum GPA.

The closing date for the Sports scholarship application is 31 October.
- ENTRANT MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
Top achievers with Level 7 or better NSC results in at least six academic subjects, excluding Life Orientation and Mathematics Literacy, are eligible for merit scholarships worth R25,000.
Students who transfer to the University of KwaZulu-Natal from other schools of higher education are not eligible for entry awards.
Renewal/Retention of entrant awards
If the recipient receives at least 80% on a weighted average based on a typical full-year subject load, entrant merit awards may be carried over into the following year of undergraduate study at a cost of R25,000 (dependent on the degree and College requirements).
NB: All Entrant awards may not be carried forward into postgraduate study.
FRENE GINWALA SCHOLARSHIP (PRESTIGE ENTRANT EQUITY SCHOLARSHIP)
The top 10 African female entrants who register at the University of KwaZulu-Natal are awarded R20,000.
Renewal/Retention of Frene Ginwala Scholarship
Entrant prestige equity awards of R20,000 may be retained into the next year of undergraduate study if the recipient scores at least 70% on a weighted average basis on a normal full-year subject load.
kwazulu Natal University NSFAS Funding
Bursaries, including financing for final-year students and UKZN loan funding, are available from UKZN through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme of South Africa (NSFAS). Along with scholarships, UKZN also provides bursaries (funded by business entities, NSFAS administration, social responsibility, and deceased estate funds) (UKZN, National Research Foundation and deceased estate funds).
